About Us

The Saint Arseny Orthodox Christian Theological Institute (SAOCTI) is an English language theological school under the authority and direction of His Grace Irénée, Bishop of Quebec City, Administrator of the Archdiocese of Canada.
The Institute was opened in September, 2003. Its purposes are to educate laity in the Orthodox faith, to train singers, readers, sub-deacons, and deacons for the Church, as well as to provide graduate-level Orthodox theological studies for both laity and those working toward ordination to the priesthood.
It is the purpose of the institute to encourage as many people as possible to learn more about the Orthodox Christian faith. As a result, the institute aims to keep fees as low as possible. Staff members also strive to provide personal attention to the goals, backgrounds, circumstances, and interests of students. We do this through the sacrificial contributions of many people - of time, money, prayers, and other supports to accomplish the goals of the Institute.
Program for Laity - A Certificate in Orthodox Theology
Men and women who are interested in taking any (or all) of the 20 theological courses (which are part of the diaconal formation) are encouraged to do so. Completion of all twenty of the courses will result in the Certificate in Orthodox Theology.
Reader's Program
A Reader's Program is offered for those who would like to be equipped as readers in order to assist in the worship services of their parish. This program is also open to anyone who would like to learn more about Orthodox worship services, or anyone who desires to become a tonsured/blessed reader within their parish. The Reader's Program is composed of two courses: part one is for readers and part two is for cantors. Students may complete either part one by itself, or both parts (part one is the pre-requisite for part two).
Diaconal Program - A Diploma in Orthodox Theology
Those men who have the blessing of the Bishop to enroll in the diaconal program may do so either full- or part-time by taking correspondence courses. The 20, one-semester courses are offered by correspondence. On occasion, individual courses may be offered in various locations across Canada.
Licentiate in Orthodox Theology
A Licentiate program is being developed in order to provide priestly formation in Canada. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
Application information and forms are available on this site.
